About us

Mark was ordained as a Deacon in the Church of England on 5th July 2009, and has taken up a curacy position in the North West of England.  Prior to ordination training, he was an Associate Director in a Safety and Environmental Consultancy where he was able to build upon his grounding in the chemical and converting industries and bring real insight to clients seeking to engage with principles of sustainability and compliance.  In his former profession he was a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Environmentalist and a European Engineer.

Mark's walk of faith has been incredibly diverse, encompassing a variety of Christian traditions and denominations including: Baptist, Methodist, Independent Methodist, Pentecostal / Assemblies of God, and the House Church.  He is firmly committed to the Anglican principles of ecumenism, knowing that God has taken him on this journey for a reason!  Embracing the wider Anglican communion and its doctrine has been like coming home.

Mark's wife, Emma, is currently completing her ordination training with a view to also being ordained Deacon in the Church of England in 2010.  Prior to ordination training, she was a Health Visitor.

Training in Theology

St John's Theological College - Ordained Ministry.

Both Mark and Emma have undertaken training in ordained ministry at St John's Theological College in Nottingham.  This offers full time, part time and mixed-mode courses for ordinands, theology students and clergy.  Not all of the students are Anglican!

Chester Diocese - Foundations for Ministry.

Prior to undertaking training in ordained ministry in Nottingham, Mark embarked upon a course in the Chester Diocese called Foundations for Ministry in 2005/06.  This is a year long part time course that served as a common foundational year for those seeking to be licenced in various forms of lay ministry (Readers, Pastoral Workers and Parish Evangelists) and also independent candidates.  After a break from academia of over 15 years, it was a really helpful course to go on and is well recommended.

Workshop - Christian Discipleship and Leadership Training.

Both Mark and Emma went on a Christian discipleship course called Workshop way back in 1992.  It was a very formative and inspiring and a time of tremendous blessing.  If you would like to have some deeper learning that really helps to catalyse your spiritual growth, why not check it out?

Online Ministry

In addition to this website, Mark is also involved (when time allows!) in various other forms of online ministry.  Over 2 years ago Mark downloaded and installed Second Life (details here) which is described as "the internet's largest user-created, 3D virtual world community."  His avatar (called Able Shepherd) has provided a means of engagement with people from all over the world.  He is involved in the leadership of several groups in Second Life.  For more information, please click here.
